A novel fed-batch strategy based on carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratio in a microbial co-culture production medium broth was carried out in a biocalorimeter for improved production of poly (3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB). Shake flask study suggested that the C/N ratio of 10 increased the yield of PHB by 2.8 times.

Poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is an extensively used implant material in biomedical devices. Biofilm formation creates issues in PMMA-based biomedical implants, while emergence of drug resistant pathogens poses an additional complication. Hence development of surfaces that resist bacterial colonisation is extremely desirable.

A combination of an acidic, oxidizing treatment (nitric acid with permanganate) followed by reducing treatment (NTA based formulation) efficiently dissolved the U-DBP deposits. The dissolution isotherm of U-DBP in its as precipitated form followed a logarithmic fit.
