Why does cancer develop? What is the essence of premalignant lesions? My answer to these sacramental questions follows. I found out that hyperplastic and tumor nodules are immunologically privileged sites, like the anterior chamber of the eye or the hamster's retrobuccal sac. The antigens from the nodules do not provoke the body's immune reactions, unlike the same antigens from the extranodular tissue.

It has been ascertained that myofibroblasts penetrating the aortal intima from the medium layer because of its compensatory rearrangements in sites of wear and pull of the vascular wall when a fibrous plaque becomes a lipid one, get transformed in stages. Ordinarily elongated orderly arranged cells become spider-like ones, polymorphous, disintegrated cells. Lipid drops get accumulated in their cytoplasma.

Rheography and echocardiography were used to study central and intracardiac hemodynamic parameters in 196 patients with Functional Classes I-II from the screening of the main antianginal drugs during an acute pharmacological test under bicycle ergometric monitoring. It was established that the hemodynamic type of circulation and left ventricular end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes may be used as criteria for the differential choice of antianginal agents. The values of these parameters are given for sustac, propranolol, verapamil, nifedipine and sustac plus propranolol.

The results of single separate administration of nitroglycerin depot (sustak forte), propranolol, verapamil and low-dose sustak-propranolol combinations were assessed by means of bicycle ergometry, echocardiography and rheography in 123 anginal patients. Bicycle ergometry is shown to have an advantage over other techniques in the assessment of the efficiency of antianginal drugs.
