We report the case of a patient who presented with a 3-month history of random epistaxis and recent onset of acute hearing loss associated with fever, chills, and myalgias. Pure tone audiometry revealed bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. Complete blood cell count showed an abnormal neutrophil count of 700/uL (normal >1900/microL) and platelet count of 25 x 10(3)/microL (normal >175 x 10(3)/microL).

Nasal polyps are the most common mass lesions found in the nose and their etiology is unknown. Nasal polyps from cystic fibrosis (CF) patients are histologically distinct from nasal polyps from patients without CF. Transseptal transsphenoidal approach to the pituitary fossa is a well-described and effective procedure. This article relates our experience with this procedure with specific emphasis on the nasal septum, both before and after surgery. It has been our experience that this surgery has minimal local complications in the nose and it would appear to improve septal alignment with subjective improvement in nasal function as reported by the patient.
