Ensemble of deep capsule neural networks: an application to pediatric pneumonia prediction.

Pneumonia disease accounts for 15% of all deaths in children under the age of five and early detection of the disease significantly improves survival chances. In this work, we introduce a novel deep neural network model for evaluating pediatric pneumonia from chest radio-graph images. The proposed network is an ensemble of multiple candidate networks, each with interleaved convolutional and capsule layers.

Profiles and predictors of auditory functioning in abacus-trained children.

Objectives: The present study explored the auditory benefits of abacus-training using a battery of tests (auditory acuity, clarity, and cognition). The study also aimed to identify the relative contributions of auditory processing tests that are most sensitive to the effects of abacus-training.

Materials And Methods: The study was conducted on 60 children aged between 9 - 14 years.

The ApoE gene of Alzheimer's disease (AD).

The ApoE gene responsible for the Alzheimer's disease has been examined to identify functional consequences of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Eighty-eight SNPs have been identified in the ApoE gene in which 31 are found to be nonsynonymous, 8 of them are coding synonymous, 33 are found to be in intron, and 3 are in untranslated region. The SNPs found in the untranslated region consisted of two SNPs from 5' and one SNP from the 3'.
