Systemic estrogen therapies (SETs) are integral to health care, playing critical roles in reproductive rights, managing heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB), alleviating menopausal symptoms, and supporting gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) for transwomen. However, SETs are associated with an increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), posing a challenge in the acute care setting. Here, we explore the nuanced management of SETs in patients who present with a hormone-related VTE in the acute care setting.

Trainees' perspectives on sickle cell education: a qualitative needs assessment.

Background: Sickle cell disease (SCD) exemplifies many of the social, racial, and healthcare equity issues in the United States. Despite its high morbidity, mortality, and cost of care, SCD has not been prioritized in research and clinical teaching, resulting in under-trained clinicians and a poor evidence base for managing complications of the disease. This study aimed to perform a needs assessment, examining the perspectives of medical trainees pursuing hematology/oncology subspecialty training regarding SCD-focused education and clinical care.

Simulating drifting fish aggregating device trajectories to identify potential interactions with endangered sea turtles.

Purse-seine fishers using drifting fish aggregating devices (dFADs), mainly built with bamboo, plastic buoys, and plastic netting, to aggregate and catch tropical tuna, deploy 46,000-65,000 dFADs per year in the Pacific Ocean. Some of the major concerns associated with this widespread fishing device are potential entanglement of sea turtles and other marine fauna in dFAD netting; marine debris and pollution; and potential ecological damage via stranding on coral reefs, beaches, and other essential habitats for marine fauna. To assess and quantify the potential connectivity (number of dFADs deployed in an area and arriving in another area) between dFAD deployment areas and important oceanic or coastal habitat of critically endangered leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea) and hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) sea turtles in the Pacific Ocean, we conducted passive-drift Lagrangian experiments with simulated dFAD drift profiles and compared them with known important sea turtle areas.

Cardiovascular Complications in Coronavirus Disease 2019-Pathogenesis and Management.

Evaluation of seromas in postmastectomy breast reconstruction: A retrospective observational study.
