Vanadium complexes have gained considerable attention as biologically active compounds. In this contribution, three previously reported dioxovanadium(V) complexes with pyridoxal semicarbazone, thiosemicarbazone, and S-methyl-iso-thiosemicarbazone ligands are theoretically examined. The intermolecular stabilization interactions within crystallographic structures were investigated by Hirshfeld surface analysis.

Background: Titanium dioxide (TiO) is banned in some countries but its use is still permitted in others. The global food supply chain is therefore challenged with the need to use rapid and reliable testing methods to either detect the presence of TiO or to quantify its concentration. The goal of this study was to determine the feasibility of using color, texture profile analysis, Raman microscopy, and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy to detect and quantify TiO in fillings used in the pastry and confectionery industry.

Eight moral virtues that have figured prominently in various cultures throughout history will be discussed: altruism, empathy, gratitude, humility, and the "cardinal virtues" of justice, prudence, fortitude, and temperance. The focus will be on how to understand them and what their relationship is to happiness. It will be argued that all eight essential moral virtues enhance happiness in most people most of the time.
