Background: Haemorrhage is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in trauma, and prehospital transfusion of blood products is often necessary. Whole blood has been proposed to be the best alternative, but it is unclear whether, and how, storage and transport of the blood in a helicopter affects the blood units. We investigated the coagulation capacity and platelet function in whole blood at different time points during helicopter missions.

Neutron activation dosimetry is the primary method for the determination of the neutron flux or fluence, and in general, it is sensitive to the thermal and resonance energy ranges (radiative capture reactions- reactions) and the fast energy range (threshold reactions). However, there are very few nuclear reactions which are sensitive specifically to neutrons in the intermediate-epithermal-energy region. This energy region, along with the fast energy range, will become particularly important in the development and deployment of new reactor technologies (Generation IV reactors and Small Modular Reactors-SMRs), which are currently being championed as technologies enabling a meaningful contribution to decarbonization and the fight against climate change, as well as nuclear fusion.

Background: The countermovement jump (CMJ) is an integral part of force and velocity profiling; a movement that is regularly implemented in training protocols and testing of athletic performance. Adding external loads to CMJs may have an added benefit for assessing gains in power and, in turn, monitoring progressive development. However, these added loads can displace the centre of mass of individuals, which may alter jump kinetics.

Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) react to various stress conditions. However, it is unclear whether and how HSCs respond to severe anemia. Here, we demonstrate that upon induction of acute anemia, HSCs rapidly proliferate and enhance their erythroid differentiation potential.
