Lymphoma with secondary central nervous system (CNS) involvement represents one of the most aggressive malignancies, with poor prognosis and high mortality. New diagnostic tools for its early detection, response evaluation, and CNS relapse prediction are needed. We analyzed circulating microRNAs in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma of 162 patients with aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (B-NHL) and compared their levels in CNS-involving lymphomas versus in systemic lymphomas, at diagnosis and during treatment and CNS relapse.

Erythropoietin (EPO) downregulates hepcidin expression to increase the availability of iron; the downregulation of hepcidin is mediated by erythroferrone (ERFE) secreted by erythroblasts. Erythroblasts also express transferrin receptor 2 (TFR2); however, the possible role of TFR2 in hepcidin downregulation is unclear. The purpose of the study was to correlate liver expression of hepcidin with the expression of ERFE and TFR2 in murine bone marrow and spleen at 4, 16, 24, 48, 72 and 96 h following administration of a single dose of EPO.

Tumors are composed of phenotypically heterogeneous cancer cells that often resemble various differentiation states of their lineage of origin. Within this hierarchy, it is thought that an immature subpopulation of tumor-propagating cancer stem cells (CSCs) differentiates into non-tumorigenic progeny, providing a rationale for therapeutic strategies that specifically eradicate CSCs or induce their differentiation. The clinical success of these approaches depends on CSC differentiation being unidirectional rather than reversible, yet this question remains unresolved even in prototypically hierarchical malignancies, such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

This work focuses on the removal of ammonia nitrogen pollution from wastewaters in a two-stage laboratory model based on a combination of the nitritation and anammox processes with the biomass immobilized in a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix. Owing to the immobilization approach inside the PVA pellets, the bacterial activity remained nearly unchanged on an abrupt change in the environmental conditions. The nitritation kinetics were significantly dependent on the dissolved oxygen concentration.
