Stiff-person syndrome is a rare autoimmune disorder manifested by stiffness in the trunk and proximal limb muscles and painful muscle spasms in them. The disease is associated with the production of glutamate decarboxylase autoantibodies, an enzyme converting glutamate into gamma-aminobutyric acid. An increase of anti-GAD antibody serum levels above 10.

This study presents findings on the biological action of an integrated supplement containing the following components involved in osteogenesis and mineralization: vitamin D and silicon in the bioavailable and soluble form. A hypothesis that these components potentiate one another's action and make calcium absorption by the body more efficient was tested. Biological tests of the effect of vitamin D and silicon chelates on bone fracture healing and bone turnover were conducted using ICR mice and albino Wistar rats.

The development of adaptive medical structures is one of the promising areas of bioengineering. Polymer composite materials based on polylactide (PLA) are interesting not only for their properties, such as biocompatibility, mechanical properties, biodegradation, and convenience of use, but also for demonstrating shape memory effect (SME). In this study, reducing the activation initiation temperature and the SME activation energy was achieved by forming a composite based on PLA containing 10% poly (ε-caprolactone) (PCL).

We evaluated the outcome of αβ T cell-depleted haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in a cohort of children with chemorefractory acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). Twenty-two patients with either primary refractory (n = 10) or relapsed refractory (n = 12) AML in active disease status received a transplant from haploidentical donors. The preparative regimen included cytoreduction with fludarabine and cytarabine and subsequent myeloablative conditioning with treosulfan and thiotepa.

Activity of the heart is assured by the myocardium motion with a composite path, which can be described with various quantitative indices, in particular the strain ones. The invention and implementation into clinical practice the "Speckle Tracking" ultrasonic technology, based on the two-dimensional echocardiography, allows to study of normal myocardium function as well as its functioning in various hart lesions, in particular, dilated cardiomyopathy (DCMP). Peculiarities of the features of longitudinal strain parameters of left ventricular (LV) walls in patients with DCMP, according to the occurrence of the total left branch of atrioventricular bundle block were studied.
