[Infectious complications after brain tumor removal: some aspects of their prevention, diagnosis, and treatment].

A hundred and fifty-five case histories of neurosurgical patients with the complicated early postoperative period were analyzed. Early postoperative regional pyoinflammatory complications were developed in 21 (4.4%) of 481 patients.

[Sedation and study of hormone dynamics in patients with severe brain injury during early postoperative period].

The paper presents the results of an investigation of the effect of sodium oxybutyrate, thiopental sodium, and propofol on the blood levels of cortisol, ACTH, TTH, T4 and T3 in patients with severe brain injury who have received artificial ventilation. The investigations showed that laboratory signs of the low T3-syndrome appeared by postoperative day 3 in all the patients. In patients receiving propofol, the manifestations of this syndrome were less pronounced and the parameters became normal more rapidly than in those taking oxyburate and thiopental sodium.

[Choice of the optimal variant of blood loss replacement during reconstructive surgery of the major vessels with the object of preventing postoperative anemia].

175 patients after reconstructive surgery on major vessels have been examined. Blood loss during surgery was compensated by crystalloid and colloid solutions or their combination with donor blood, autoblood, UV-irradiated autoblood. In the postoperative period hematological parameters were assessed, the volume of the donor blood transfused was determined and the effect of UV-irradiation on the morphology and size of autoerythrocytes was studied.
