Introduction: Amyand's hernia, an uncommon condition characterized by the presence of the appendix within an inguinal hernial sac (< 1% incidence), poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Often it is an intraoperative finding, with almost no clinical symptoms.

Case Presentation: This is a case of an Indian male in his early 80 years, diagnosed with bilateral direct inguinal hernias, one of which contained a noninflamed appendix.

Article Synopsis
  • Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) is linked to atrial fibrillation (AF) and atrial fibrosis, but many AF patients show no signs of left atrial (LA) fibrosis. This study compared EAT levels in AF patients without LA fibrosis to matched controls without AF.
  • AF patients without LA fibrosis had significantly higher total and regional volumes of EAT compared to controls, indicating that EAT may play a role in AF development even when LA fibrosis is absent.
  • The study found no differences in EAT volumes between AF patients with and without LA fibrosis and no significant link between EAT volume and AF recurrence after catheter ablation.

Background: Recent advancements in omics and benchmark dose (BMD) modeling have facilitated identifying the dose required for a predetermined change in a response (e.g. gene or protein change) that can be used to establish acceptable dose levels for hazardous exposures.

In the present study, we prepared Gum Acacia-cl-Acrylic acid-co-itaconic acid (GA-cl-AA-co-IA) hydrogels by free radical crosslink polymerization method for the efficient removal of Rhodamine-B (RhB) dye. The hydrogels were further characterized by different characterization techniques: Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Atomic force microscopy (AFM), Brunuer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) to confirm synthesis. The synthesis parameters were optimized by swelling studies, which were performed by gravimetric analysis method.

Unlabelled: The present study evaluated the effects of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) and aqueous extract on diabetes. An in silico docking study with select bioactive compounds showed strong binding affinities of folates with glucose metabolism-related proteins. In vitro assay showed 5-MTHF's superior inhibitory activity on alpha-amylase compared to folic acid.
