In experiments conducted on Wistar rats, the effects of the multifunctional cytokine TGF-β1 were investigated using a neurodegeneration model induced by a single injection of the neurotoxicant trimethyltin chloride (TMT). Animals in the experimental group received intranasal administration of TGF-β1 on days 7 and 9 following TMT injection. Behavioral tests were performed to assess cognitive function, and three weeks after TMT administration, hippocampal morphology was analyzed using Nissl staining.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how the biosurfactant rhamnolipid affects the solubilization of naphthalene in water.
  • Using NMR diffusion techniques, researchers measured the self-diffusion coefficients for naphthalene, rhamnolipid, and water across various rhamnolipid concentrations.
  • Findings revealed that as rhamnolipid concentration increases, a greater percentage of naphthalene molecules become bound to micelles, increasing from 50% at 2 g/L to 100% at concentrations of 50 g/L or more.

Article Synopsis
  • - Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has become a leading noncommunicable disease worldwide, contributing significantly to illness and death rates.
  • - Recent advancements in how we understand, diagnose, and treat COPD, including the use of effective drug combinations and non-medication methods, have changed the management of the condition.
  • - These updates reflect a new approach in clinical practice for diagnosing and treating COPD, emphasizing the importance of both medication and lifestyle changes.

The non-competitive NMDA glutamate receptor antagonist memantine has neuroprotective properties and is the first non-cholinergic drug approved for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The purpose of this work was to test the hypothesis that injections of memantine to healthy animals can affect the subunit composition of NMDA receptors in the brain, which may explain the effects of its chronic administration. For this, the expression of subunits GluN1, GluN2A, GluN2B, and GluN2C was studied in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex of rats after single or five subchronic injections of memantine.

The cellular mechanisms of neuroplastic changes in the structure of motoneurons and neuropils of the oculomotor (III) nuclei in mice after a 30-day space flight and 7 days after landing were studied. The results showed that microgravity caused degenerative phenomena in neurons: a decrease in the number of terminal dendritic branches was found both after flight and after readaptation to Earth's gravity. In mice after the flight, the number of axodendritic synapses was less than in the control, and their number was not restored after the readaptation.
