[Department of Antibiotics: results of research activity during 80 years--since the foundation till now].

The paper on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the D.K. Zabolotny Institute of Microbiology and Virology at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is dedicated to the research activity of one of its oldest subdivision--the Department ofAntibiotics.

[Influence of probiotic subalin on efficiency of antitumor vaccine].

Preparation subalin created on the basis of a recombinant strain of B. subtilis 2335/105 containing the gene of synthesis of human a-2-interferon has been tested in the experiment for its ability of increasing the efficiency of antitumor vaccine prepared from syngenic tumor cells and cytotoxic lectin--the metabolism product of the strain of B. subtilis B-7025.

[Alpha-amylases of Bacillus subtilis].

Preparations of alpha-amylase have been obtained as a result of screening of Bacillus subtilis strains. They can hydrolyse starch at a temperature from 60 to 95 degrees C at acidic and alkaline values of pH and hold stability during 2-3 hours. Alpha-Amylase of B.

[Predictors of sudden death in children with cardiomyopathy].

The article presents possible predictors of sudden death in children with cardiomyopathy. A total of 65 children were followed up. Of these, 38 had dilation cardiomyopathy, 27 presented with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, their ages ranging between one month to 15 years over the 8-year period.

[Mononuclear phagocyte function in children with pyelonephritis under dynamic observation].

A total of 84 pediatric patients who ranged from 4 to 14 years old were examined. Of these, 12 were patients with acute nonobstructive pyelonephritis, 44 had chronic obstructive pyelonephritis in the remission period. Children with pyelonephritis demonstrated depressed migration of mononuclear phagocytes as per aseptic inflammatory skin test.
