Article Synopsis
  • Scientists studied the kinematic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (kSZ) effect using data from two telescopes, the South Pole Telescope and Herschel-SPIRE, covering a large area in the sky.
  • They found a strong signal indicating that there is a trispectrum, which is a kind of pattern in the data, but it had contributions from other sources too, like cosmic microwave background lensing and foregrounds.
  • By analyzing the data, they couldn't find just the kSZ signal alone, but they set limits on how long the reionization period lasted in the early universe, which helps us understand its history better.

Hematogenous metastasis limits the survival of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Here, we illuminated the roles of CD44 isoforms in this process. Isoforms 3 and 4 were predominantly expressed in CRC patients.

The expression of RNA-binding proteins and their interaction with the spliced pre-mRNA are the key factors in determining the final isoform profile. Transmembrane protein CD44 is involved in differentiation, invasion, motility, growth and survival of tumor cells, and is also a commonly accepted marker of cancer stem cells and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. However, the functions of the isoforms of this protein differ significantly.

Regulation of alternative splicing is carried out by RNA-binding proteins. Each alternative splicing event is controlled by several RNA-binding proteins, which in combination create the distribution of alternative splicing products in a given cell type. Transmembrane protein CD44 plays an important role at various stages of the metastatic cascade and is considered as a promising molecule for the therapy of tumor diseases and the construction of prognostic classifiers.

Titanium nitride is a material of interest for many superconducting devices such as nanowire microwave resonators and photon detectors. Thus, controlling the growth of TiN thin films with desirable properties is of high importance. This work aims to explore effects in ion beam-assisted sputtering (IBAS), were an observed increase in nominal critical temperature and upper critical fields are in tandem with previous work on Niobium nitride (NbN).
