Large language models (LLMs) have shown promise in medical question answering, with Med-PaLM being the first to exceed a 'passing' score in United States Medical Licensing Examination style questions. However, challenges remain in long-form medical question answering and handling real-world workflows. Here, we present Med-PaLM 2, which bridges these gaps with a combination of base LLM improvements, medical domain fine-tuning and new strategies for improving reasoning and grounding through ensemble refinement and chain of retrieval.

Background: Chronic pain poses a multifaceted and prevalent challenge that significantly affects an individual's quality of life. Sensory mechanisms, behavioural components (kinesiophobia and catastrophising), and social factors can influence pain perception in both younger and older populations. Moreover, the mechanisms underlying these altered pain phenotypes require further investigation in order to plan appropriate treatment.

Obesity is one of the main clinical characteristics associated with the heterogeneous genetic disorder Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS). Leucine zipper transcription factor like 1 (LZTFL1) is a member of the BBS gene family. Our work showed that Lztfl1knockout (LZKO) mice display the obesity phenotype as early as 3 months of age.
