Testes have several primary functions, such as male gametes production (spermatozoa) and secretion of several endocrine factors, including the production of steroid and protein hormones which facilitate elements in the healthy reproductive function of mammals. The potential of an animal functional endocrine reservoir could be an interesting finding in animal reproduction management. Therefore, the current study aimed to analyze the functional endocrine reserves of testes in 12- and 18-month-old boars of four different boar breeds, namely Large White, Landrace, Duroc, and Tempo, as the animal model in this research (n=10).

We present experimental evidence of field-driven transition in spin-glass state, similar to pressure-induced transition between amorphous phases in structural and metallic glasses, attributed to the polyamorphism phenomena. Cusp in temperature dependences of ac magnetic susceptibility of weakly disordered LaMnO single crystal is registered below the temperature of magnetic ordering. Frequency dependence of the cusp temperature proves its spin-glass origin.

The generation of defects in NbSe(2) single crystals by electron irradiation has been investigated by a combination of ac susceptibility and structural measurements. Remarkably, thanks to the layered structure of NbSe(2), we show that electronic irradiation cannot only create point defects but also in-plane extended defects, which modify anisotropically the ac response. Indeed, the analysis of the onset of the nonlinear susceptibility response, H(ac)(l)(T), as a function of irradiation dose and field orientation shows a correlated increase in the density of anisotropic defects induced by electron irradiation.

(93)Nb NMR studies were carried out for a single crystal of NbSe(2) at 73.328 MHz in the temperature range 9-300 K to investigate the normal and charge density wave (CDW) states. Detailed analysis of the NMR line shape of the central transition using a classical incommensurate model reveals the change in the conduction electron spin dynamics from above T(CDW).

The Chernobyl nuclear reactor accident occurred in 1986. The plume from the explosions and fires was highly radioactive and resulted in very high exposure levels in the surrounding regions. This paper describes how the people in Kiev, Ukraine, a city 120 km (90 miles) south of Chernobyl, and in particular one individual in that city, Professor Vitaly Eremenko, became aware of the threat before the official announcement and the steps he took to mitigate potential impacts to his immediate family.
