Populations of Large White, Large Black, Poltava Meaty, Pietrain and Meishan pigs are characterized by intron PvuII-polymorphism in the estrogen 1 receptor gene (ESRI). The breeds differ in ESR1-allele frequencies and genotypes. In the populations there are deviations in genotype distribution from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium.

A technique of rhyanodinreceptor gene (RYRI) typing was improved and applied for diagnostics of porcine stress syndrome. Genetic population analysis with respect to RYRI gene in the pigs of various breeds was made. Maximal distribution of the RYRI T-allele was observed in the Poltava Meaty pig population.

This review deals with the growth hormone genetic polymorphism and presents information about somatotropin variants, which are synthesized in the pituitary gland and in the placenta. The detailed results of somatotropin DNA polymorphism study in different animal species are presented. It is supposed that some DNA alleles which find their source in replacements in non-coding part of the gene, express their phenotype by the deviations in the expression control.

Restriction fragment length polymorphism of the gene of the growth hormone was investigated in Big White and Mirgorod pigs. A polymorphous BsuRI restriction site was found within an amplified gene-region near 5-end. It was localized within the first intron, 1.

The multiple forms of pig somatotropin were investigated. Four monomer hormone variants were isolated and some of their physico-chemical characteristics were determined. It is shown that they differ in their molecular mass, N-terminal amino acid residues and amino acid composition.
