Background: Pressure lability may be linked to the loss of the cardiac baroreflex. The reduction of the sensitivity of the cardiac baroreflex has not been delineated in the post-operative period according to age in normotensive patients. This study addresses pressure lability and slope of the cardiac baroreflex as a function of age.

High plasma ropivacaine concentrations after fascia iliaca compartment block in children.

Background: The pharmacokinetic profile of local anaesthetics is influenced by the mode of administration. We sought to compare the pharmacokinetics of two doses of ropivacaine after fascia iliaca compartment (FIC) block in children.

Methods: In this prospective, double-blind study, children received an FIC block as a part of their anaesthetic management during elective orthopaedic surgery on the thigh.

[Infections of cerebrospinal fluid shunts in the child: prevention and treatment].

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunting has developed into the mean method of treatment in children with hydrocephalus. Until the last decade, shunt infection was the most important cause of morbidity with a mean rate of 10%. Most of shunt infection (> 90%) are diagnosed within six months after surgery supporting a basic premise of direct contamination at the time of surgery.
