Introduction: Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) is an effective treatment for heart failure (HF) in approximately two-thirds of recipients, with a third remaining CRT 'non-responders.' There is an increasing body of evidence exploring the reasons behind non-response, as well as ways to preempt or counteract it.

Areas Covered: This review will examine the most recent evidence regarding optimizing outcomes from CRT, as well as explore whether traditional CRT indeed remains the best first-line therapy for electrical resynchronization in HF.

Article Synopsis
  • Pediatric patients often experience anxiety and behavioral challenges during dental care, prompting a need for effective behavior coaching techniques.
  • This pilot study investigates the effects of audiovisual stimuli, specifically binaural beats, on anxiety reduction in children aged 6 to 9 years during dental procedures.
  • Results show that children exposed to binaural beats experienced significantly greater reductions in pulse rate and increases in oxygen saturation compared to those without audio stimulation, highlighting its potential as a useful tool in pediatric dentistry.

Background: Nasal ala defects present significant reconstructive challenges due to their complex anatomy and functional importance. Auricular composite grafts, incorporating both skin and cartilage, are particularly suited for this purpose because they can replace the multilayered structure of the nasal ala in a single surgical procedure, thereby restoring both form and function. Clinical outcomes of these grafts in the reconstruction of ala defects have been highly promising with studies indicating near complete survival rates.

The Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) Pediatric Expert Panel is made up of pediatric physicians from the disciplines of radiology, emergency medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, respirology, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, urology, a patient advisor, and an epidemiologist/guideline methodologist. After developing a list of 50 clinical/diagnostic scenarios, a rapid scoping review was undertaken to identify systematically produced referral guidelines that provide recommendations for one or more of these clinical/diagnostic scenarios. Recommendations from 32 guidelines and contextualization criteria in the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations (GRADE) for guidelines framework were used to develop 133 recommendation statements across the 50 scenarios.
