Purpose: To evaluate the role of metallic stents in treating stenoses involving prosthetic arterial bypass grafts.

Methods: Patients undergoing stent placement within a failing prosthetic bypass graft, during a 41-month period, were reviewed for treatment outcome and complications. The indications for stent placement in 15 patients included severe claudication (n = 3), rest pain (n = 9), and minor or major tissue loss (n = 3).

Interventional techniques available for use in treating congenital heart disease include balloon dilation of valves and vessels, stent placement and coil embolization of collaterals, patent ducts and other arterial fistulae. In addition, a variety of devices for closure of atrial and ventricular septal defects and patent ducts currently are under investigation. Background: Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) are a known complication after some types of cavopulmonary anastomoses (CVPAs). Their cause is unknown, but they may be related to the absence of pulsatile flow or the presence or absence of circulating factors.
