Rapid drying of soil leads to its fracture. The cracks left behind by these fractures are best seen in soils such as clays that are fine in the texture and shrink on drying, but this can be seen in other soils too. Hence, different soils from the same region show different characteristic desiccation cracks and can thus be used to identify the soil type.

A deviation from the ideal honeycomb pattern can occur due to variation of roughness of the substrate, change in vapor from water to other liquids, etc. The thermodynamics of breath figure formation is complex, and any deviation from ideality is even more difficult to understand.

Suitable binary liquids are often used as prototypes for the study of biologically significant hydrogen bond studies and their intricate networks. Often, such systems show deviations in their physico-chemical properties from ideal conditions.

Studies show that the formation of breath figures over polystyrene is not clearly understood-sometimes the patterns are regular and sometimes they are barely formed. In an attempt to understand this process a little more, breath figures over polystyrene of three molecular weights and on the smooth and grooved DVD surfaces are prepared and studied. The microporous films are prepared by the evaporation of the chloroform solution of the polymers in a humid environment.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOur previous studies on various hydrogen-bonded binary systems have shown anomalous physico-chemical properties at lower (10-30%) volume concentrations of either one or both of the components. In order to have a better understanding of this phenomenon, a systematic molecular dynamics study of binary mixtures of acetone with eight primary alcohols (R-OH, with R = 1 to 8) was undertaken. The structure of the binary systems is studied using radial distribution function, hydrogen bond statistics, and graph theoretical approach.
