Participatory research towards the control of snakebite envenoming and other illnesses in a riverine community of the Western Brazilian Amazon.

Background: Riverine communities face various health problems, which involve geographical and cultural barriers to accessing care, in addition to a lack of financial investments in services aimed at these communities, resulting in a process of invisibility for the population living in these regions. In this scenario, the significant burden of snakebite envenoming (SBE) highlights the need for participatory research to address ways to minimize this situation. Thus, this study aimed to describe the priority health problems identified by this population and the ranking of SBEs in that context, mapping solutions according to the local reality.

TRANSLATION, CROSS-CULTURAL ADAPTATION, AND VALIDATION OF THE IBD DISK FOR USE IN PATIENTS WITH INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASES IN THE BRAZILIAN POPULATION.

Background: The inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) disk is a simple and quick method to assess the level of disability experienced by patients with IBD. It has been already translated and validated in European countries, however it was not yet translated and validated to use in Brazil.

Objective: This study was performed to translate and validate a Brazilian version of the IBD-Disk.

Blood-based biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology have been intensively investigated as markers for AD-related neurodegeneration. Comorbid AD pathology is common in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). Accordingly, we hypothesized that plasma biomarkers associated with AD pathology might be useful to predict DLB in a cohort of idiopathic/isolated REM sleep behavior disorder (iRBD), an incipient synucleinopathy.

LPDE biodegradation promoted by a novel additive based on silica nanoparticles: Structural, microbial and ecotoxicological characterization.

This study developed a biodegrading additive based on nanosilica and modified by cellulase enzyme in the presence of citric acid and sodium citrate. The additive was tested as a facilitator for biodegradation of the commercial low-density polyethylene (LDPE) in soil. Enzyme immobilization was confirmed by enzymatic assays.

Complications of Submentonian and Cervical Liposuction Surgery Associated With Platysmaplasty.

The aim of this study was to report a series of 3 cases of complications following submentonian and cervical liposuction associated with platysmaplasty. The complications include hemorrhage, Ludwig's angina, and paralysis caused by injury to the marginal mandibular nerve. The procedure was performed by the same operator using the same technique, and the patients were informed of the risks.
