Scientific rationale has been provided for the fact that new cases of pulmonary tuberculosis can be successfully treated in the outpatient setting. The paper suggests that the pattern of a tuberculous process and the patient's socioeconomic status and education level should be taken into account while choosing a treatment regimen. Indications, contraindications, necessary conditions for outpatient treatment are defined.
