During survey of nutrition and metabolism in the population of the Estonian SSR, a study was made of carbohydrate metabolism and acid-base balance (ABB) in subjects engaged in physical and brain work. It was demonstrated that disorders of carbohydrate metabolism and reduction in ABB toward acidosis were mostly observed in spring. Correlational analysis made it possible to establish the relationship between the changes indicated and nutrition.
