The authors followed up 215 patients with acute cholecystitis who were hospitalized with an erroneous diagnosis of food poisoning and 346 food poisoning patients who developed acute cholecystitis in the course of the disease mentioned. Symptoms for differential diagnosis of acute cholecystitis and food poisoning were considered.

A thorough clinical analysis of pains in the right hypochondrium was carried out in 880 patients. There were 80 men (the mean age 45 years) and 800 women (the mean age 40 years). Three groups of the symptom complexes were distinguished, pointing to: (a) dyskinesia of the gallbladder by the hypotonic type; (b) dyskinesia of the gallbladder by the hypertonic type; (c) chronic cholecystitis.

Data of 205 patients with recurrent (48) and residual (157) choledocholithiases are presented. In most observations postoperative cholelithiasis proceeded by the type of chronic intermittent obturation of bile ducts. Highly effective method of diagnosing recurrent and residual calculi is thought to be the endoscopic retrograde pancreatocholangiography, best results of the treatment being obtained after the endoscopic papillosphincterotomy which should be used as the operation of choice.
