Monoclonal antibodies (MAs) to the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase from turnip yellow luteovirus (TYV) were prepared using a recombinant protein as immunogen and were shown to be directed to C-terminal part of the viral replicase. These MAs were found to interact with a 70-kDa protein found in extracts from TYV-infected plants. Our result is the first successful attempt at detecting the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase of a luteovirus in infected plant extracts.

An increase in the incidence of papillary thyroid cancer has been documented in individuals exposed to Chernobyl fallout in 1986. Experiments using cultured human cells have suggested that radiation can induce the ret/PTC1 rearrangement involving the ret proto-oncogene. To test the hypothesis that the ret/PTC1 rearrangement is involved in the pathogenesis of Chernobyl-associated papillary thyroid carcinomas, we studied a panel of 31 cases from Belarus.

The study of the plasmid R388 deletional derivatives has shown the antitumorigenicity determinant of the plasmid to be contained by the tra-operon. Transposon Tn5 has been used for selection of a number of insertional mutants having lost the antitumorigenic properties. The difference in the locations of Tn5 inserts was found, all of the latter being localized within the tra-operon.

On the basis of using of modern methods of cytological analysis the cell growth peculiarities, reproduction and structure of plant cells of different level organisation (unicellular algae, mosses, angiosperms, cell cultures of higher factors--weightlessness, hypogravity, magnetic fields of various intensity, vibration and acceleration were cleared. It is shown that many discovered biological effects of space flight are connected with the degree of complexity of the object organisation and intensified with the increasing duration of influence.

Data from a complex cytochemical analysis show that the functional state of chromatin and the level of the cell proliferative activity may be reliable cytological criteria for primary structural and functional changes that result in disturbances of plant growth and development. Autoradiographic and cytophotonetric studies made it possible to establish certain differences, induced by fast rotation (50 rev/min) on the clinostat, in the chromatin state and cell reproduction of the pea seedling root meristem for the initial stages of plant development. There were no essential differences for the given parameters under slow (2 rev/min) clinostatic conditions.
