The non-thermoluminescence afterglow-based dosimetry performance of self-agglomerating pellet-shaped CaSO:Dy phosphors synthesized through a low-cost, environmentally friendly method is first reported. Thermoluminescence (TL) and afterglow (AG) were analyzed in samples exposed to beta particle irradiation in the dose range from 0.06 to 8.

Background: Pathophysiological mechanisms of rheumatoid arthritis arise because of a proinflammatory environment, generated by the interaction of autoreactive lymphocytes and proinflammatory mediators. Current strategies to mitigate the progression of the disease produce adverse effects, so there is a need for new therapeutic strategies and molecular targets to treat this disease. In this context, evidence suggests that scorpion venoms could modulate the immune response and some important cellular mechanisms of pharmacological interest.

The novel bioengineered CuO nanoparticles were successfully synthesized directly using green chemistry, the nontoxic and renewable aqueous extract of waste papaya peel (Carica papaya) as a precursor. The XRD analysis indicated a monoclinic phase of CuO nanoparticles and a size of 20 nm, and the optical absorption analysis showed a peak in the 264 nm range. In TEM, the morphology of the NPs was observed to be almost spherical with a particle size of 15 nm.

Polymyxin resistance in carbapenem-resistant bacteria is associated with high morbidity and mortality in vulnerable populations throughout the world. Ineffective antimicrobial activity by these last resort therapeutics can occur by transfer of , a plasmid-mediated resistance gene, causing modification of the lipid A portion of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and disruption of the interactions between polymyxins and lipid A. Whether this modification alters the innate host immune response or carries a high fitness cost in the bacteria is not well established.
