Preeclampsia and the long term risk of developing neurological disorders requiring hospital admission.

Introduction: Preeclampsia is associated with acute neurological complications during pregnancy, but the subsequent risk of developing a neurological disorder is unclear. We determined if preeclampsia was associated with the long-term risk of neurological morbidity.

Methods: We conducted a longitudinal cohort study of 1,460,098 pregnant women with and without preeclampsia in Quebec, Canada, between 1989 and 2023.

Association of gestational trophoblastic disease with subsequent development of non-trophoblastic cancer.

Objective: To evaluate the association between gestational trophoblastic disease and the subsequent risk of developing non-trophoblastic cancer.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 3084 women with gestational trophoblastic disease and 1 415 812 women with obstetric deliveries in Quebec, Canada, between 1989 and 2021. The main exposure was gestational trophoblastic disease, including hydatidiform moles, invasive moles, and gestational choriocarcinoma.

Balance and Gait: Associations With Cognitive Impairment and Dementia in Individuals With Down Syndrome.

Background: Atypical aging in Down syndrome (DS) is associated with neuropathological characteristics consistent with Alzheimer disease. Gait abnormalities have been shown to be associated with an increased risk of dementia for the general population. The aim of this study was to determine whether gait disorders are associated with worse cognitive performance and dementia in adults with DS.

An integrated virtual pathology education platform developed using Microsoft Power Apps and Microsoft Teams.

The transition towards digital pathology and an extensive selection of video conferencing platforms have helped provide continuity to education even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Innovative approaches for pathology education, will likely persist beyond the pandemic, as they have powerful didactic potential. While there is a wide selection of software for use as educational tools, an environment to access all resources with ease is clearly lacking.
