SOCIO-ECONOMIC FEATURES OF SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS AMONG MSM IN GEORGIA.

The aim of our study was to investigate correlation between socio-Economic conditions and prevalence of Sexually Transmitted Infections among gay individuals (men who have sex with men, MSM) in Georgia. The study was conducted in 5 main cities in different regions of Georgia (Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi, and Telavi). During 2015-2019, social workers, LGBT community and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), conducted screening of MSM for STI, which was achieved by disseminating required information through electronic and print media, resulting in maximum involvement of MSM in screening programs for STI disseminating.

Efficacy of Lazolex® Gel in the Treatment of Herpes Simplex Mucocutaneous Infections and the Prevention of Recurrences: A Pilot Study.

Background: Previous in vitro and in vivo studies indicated that walnut extract has a therapeutic effect on herpes simplex infections. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and tolerance of Lazolex® Gel (Iveriapharma, Tbilisi, Georgia), an emollient gel to treat mucocutaneous lesions caused by herpes simplex virus.

Methods: A single-center, single-arm, open-label, phase II clinical trial was conducted with 30 patients divided into two groups: 15 patients with herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) infections and 15 with herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2).

Evaluation of safety and efficacy of prolonged suppressive therapy of genital herpes with valacyclovir.

The aim of study was to determine the effectiveness, safety and side effects of suppressive therapy (valacyclovir) for relapsing genital herpes virus infections. Patients with HSV were divided into three groups: the first group was composed of 82 patients (45 males and 37 females) who received 500 mg of valacyclovir single dose daily during 6 months. The second group was composed of 52 patients (29 males and 23 females) who received 500 mg of valacyclovir single dose daily during 12 months.
