A Clinical User Study Investigating the Benefits of Adaptive Volumetric Illumination Sampling.

Accurate and fast understanding of the patient's anatomy is crucial in surgical decision making and particularly important in visceral surgery. Sophisticated visualization techniques such as 3D Volume Rendering can aid the surgeon and potentially lead to a benefit for the patient. Recently, we proposed a novel volume rendering technique called Adaptive Volumetric Illumination Sampling (AVIS) that can generate realistic lighting in real-time, even for high resolution images and volumes but without introducing additional image noise.

Remission with or without comorbid substance use disorders in early psychosis: long-term outcome in integrated care (ACCESS III study).

Introduction: Schizophrenia-Spectrum-Disorders are associated with poor long-term outcome as well as disability and often severely affect the lives of patients and their families often from symptom onset. Up to 70% of first episode psychosis (FEP) patients suffer from comorbid substance use disorders (SUD). We aimed at studying the course of illness in FEP patients within evidence-based care, with and without comorbid SUD, to examine how decreased, remitted or persistent substance use impacted rates of a combined symptomatic and functional long-term recovery compared with patients without SUD.

Optimization of the Antibacterial Spectrum and the Developability Profile of the Novel-Class Natural Product Corramycin.

Corramycin is a novel zwitterionic antibacterial peptide isolated from a culture of the myxobacterium . Though Corramycin displayed a narrow spectrum and modest MICs against sensitive bacteria, its ADMET and physchem profile as well as its high tolerability in mice along with an outstanding in vivo efficacy in an septicemia mouse model were promising and prompted us to embark on an optimization program aiming at enlarging the spectrum and at increasing the antibacterial activities by modulating membrane permeability. Scanning the peptidic moiety by the Ala-scan strategy followed by key stabilization and introduction of groups such as a primary amine or siderophore allowed us to enlarge the spectrum and increase the overall developability profile.

Differential effects of acute cardiovascular exercise on explicit and implicit motor memory: The moderating effects of fitness level.

A single bout of cardiovascular exercise (CE) performed after practice can facilitate the consolidation of motor memory. However, the effect is variable and may be modulated by different factors such as the motor task's or participant's characteristics and level of awareness during encoding (implicit vs explicit learning). This study examines the effects of acute CE on the consolidation of motor sequences learned explicitly and implicitly, exploring the potential moderating effect of fitness level and awareness.
