Unsatisfactory accuracy as determined by computer navigation of VISIONAIRE patient-specific instrumentation for total knee arthroplasty.

This investigation evaluated the Smith and Nephew VISIONAIRE patient-specific cutting block (PSCB) system for total knee arthroplasty. A consecutive series of 60 patients was recruited. Intraoperative computer navigation was used to evaluate the accuracy of the cutting blocks in the coronal and sagittal planes for the tibia, as well as rotational plane for the femur.

A biomechanical comparison of scaphoid fixation with bone grafting using iliac bone or distal radius bone.

Purpose: Although many scaphoid fractures may be treated by immobilization, complex scaphoid fractures generally require bone grafting with internal fixation. A preferred source of bone graft for scaphoid grafting is the iliac crest. Donor site morbidity from iliac crest harvest, however, is a known complication, and the comparable strength and osteogenic properties of bone harvested from other sites are unclear.

Flexion after total knee replacement. A comparison between the Medial Pivot knee and a posterior stabilised implant.

A comparison was made between 261 knees replaced with the Medial Pivot arthroplasty and 288 replaced with the 913 posterior stabilised arthroplasty (PS knee). There was no significant difference in the flexion obtained at 12 months after surgery (111 degrees and 109 degrees , respectively). When the knees were grouped into preoperative flexion ranges, there was no significant difference between the two implants.

Sideswipe injuries to the elbow in Western Australia.

Objective: To examine the conditions leading to sideswipe injury of the upper limb in motor vehicle accidents and to highlight the severity of these injuries.

Design And Setting: Prospective study of upper-limb sideswipe injuries in patients admitted to Royal Perth Hospital, Western Australia, between August 2003 and January 2005.

Participants: Eleven patients sustaining sideswipe injuries to the upper limb.

Downregulation of protein phosphatase 2A activity in HeLa cells at the G2-mitosis transition and unscheduled reactivation induced by 12-O-tetradecanoyl phorbol-13-acetate (TPA).

In the cell cycle the transition from G2 phase to cell division (M) is strictly controlled by protein phosphorylation-dephosphorylation reactions effected by several protein kinases and phosphatases. Although much indirect and direct evidence point to a key role of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) at the G2/M transition, the control of the enzyme activity prior to and after the transition are not fully clarified. Using synchronized HeLa cells we determined the PP2A activity (i.
