Malignant transformation of vestibular schwannoma following radiosurgery-a case report and review of the literature.

Malignant transformation of vestibular schwannoma (VS) post-radiosurgery is an extremely rare but life-threatening complication. We present a patient who underwent two surgeries for a benign VS and received Gamma Knife radiosurgery for residual tumour. Five and a half years post-radiosurgery, the patient was reoperated for symptomatic recurrence of the tumour.

Phenotypic expression of polycystic ovary syndrome in South Asian women.

Unlabelled: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) occurs in 6% to 10% of women and, as the most common worldwide endocrinopathy of reproductive-aged women, is linked to a constellation of reproductive and metabolic abnormalities, including anovulatory infertility, hirsutism, acne, and insulin resistance in association with metabolic syndrome. Despite a genetic component to PCOS, ethnicity plays an important role in the phenotypic expression of PCOS, with South Asian PCOS women having more severe reproductive and metabolic symptoms than other ethnic groups. South Asians with PCOS seek medical care at an earlier age for reproductive abnormalities; have a higher degree of hirsutism, infertility, and acne; and experience lower live birth rates following in vitro fertilization than do whites with PCOS.

Objective: To study clinical, endocrine and metabolic profiles in the kindred of subjects with familial partial lipodystrophy (FPLD, Dunnigan type).

Material And Methods: Twenty two relatives (10 males, 12 females), from an extended family with FPLD, were assessed for the phenotypic features, impaired glucose tolerance (IGT)/diabetes mellitus (DM), dyslipidemia and the presence of insulin resistance.
