Mitomycin-C versus oxaliplatin during cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC for peritoneal metastases secondary to colorectal carcinoma: a retrospective analysis.

Purpose: Combining cytoreductive surgery (CRS) with Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) can benefit patients with peritoneal metastasis from colorectal cancer, however the optimal choice of the HIPEC chemotherapy is still under debate. The present study compares the clinical outcome in patients with peritoneal metastases treated with CRS and HIPEC using Mitomycin - C versus Oxaliplatin.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients that underwent CRS and HIPEC for recurrent colorectal cancer with peritoneal metastases.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus status in obese patients following sleeve gastrectomy or one anastomosis gastric bypass.

This study aims to compare sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) in terms of remission of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in obese patients. All T2DM patients were followed-up for at least 36 months. The primary outcome was remission of T2DM.

Estimating the extent of myocardial damage in patients with STEMI using the DETERMINE score.

Background: Recently, a simple ECG score (DETERMINE score) has been proposed for estimating myocardial scar in patients with ischaemic cardiomyopathy. We sought to evaluate the usefulness of the DETERMINE score for the assessment of myocardial infarct size (IS) as well as microvascular obstruction (MVO), in the setting of ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Methods: This observational study enrolled 423 patients with STEMI (median age 56, 17% women), revascularised by primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

A novel way of hook wire placement for surgical resection of suspicious breast lesions using the stereotactic vacuum assisted breast biopsy table.

Preoperative hook localization is a necessary procedure for targeting impalpable breast lesions. The aim of the current study is to introduce an alternative technique of wire placement by using the stereotactic biopsy device instead of the conventionally used mammography device. Fifty-one patients with impalpable mammographic lesions, graded BIRADS 4 or 5, were prospectively enrolled.
