We investigate the emission of single photons from CdSe/CdS dots-in-rod which are optically trapped in the focus of a deep parabolic mirror. Thanks to this mirror, we are able to image almost the full 4π emission pattern of nanometer-sized elementary dipoles and verify the alignment of the rods within the optical trap. From the motional dynamics of the emitters in the trap, we infer that the single-photon emission occurs from clusters comprising several emitters.

Purpose: To present the results of research aimed at developing a new method of minimally invasive removal of an intraocular foreign body (IOFB) from the eye cavity.

Methods: The main idea was to fix the IOFB onto the edge of a laser probe, which is transsclerally injected into the eye. After that, the IOFB is fixed at the end of the laser probe and removed transpupillary from the eye through an incision in the cornea.

Spatially entangled twin photons allow the study of high-dimensional entanglement, and the Laguerre-Gauss modes are the most commonly used basis to discretize the single-photon mode spaces. In this basis, to date only the azimuthal degree of freedom has been investigated experimentally due to its fundamental and experimental simplicity. We show that the full spatial entanglement is indeed accessible experimentally; i.

Bacteriorhodopsin (BR) in its metastable form was used for pulsed holographic recording at lambda~400nm . It is shown that the properties of BR are insensitive to changes in the writing light's pulse width. When holograms are recorded in the BR stable form (lambda~600 nm) , the sensitivity of the medium and the diffraction efficiency of those holograms are reduced proportionally to the decrease in the light's pulse width.
