Assessment of quality of life before and after successful percutaneous transvenous mitral commissurotomy in patients with severe mitral stenosis.

Background: Rheumatic mitral stenosis (MS) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in India. Percutaneous transvenous mitral commissurotomy (PTMC) has become the procedure of choice for severe MS with pliable leaflets. Despite a wealth of literature on the technical aspects of PTMC, there is a dearth of literature addressing the impact of PTMC on the quality of life (QOL).

A survey of cardiac implantable electronic device implantation in India: By Indian Society of Electrocardiology and Indian Heart Rhythm Society.

Background: There is limited data regarding the demographics and type of cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) in India.

Aim: The aim of this survey was to define trends in CIED implants, which included permanent pacemakers (PM), intracardiac defibrillators (ICD), and cardiac resynchronization therapy pacemakers and defibrillators (CRT-P/D) devices in India.

Methods: The survey was the initiative of the Indian Society of Electrocardiology and the Indian Heart Rhythm Society.

Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty in an embolic middle cerebral artery occlusion.

A young lady developed left middle cerebral artery embolism after percutaneous transseptal mitral commissurotomy. She was successfully treated with immediate percutaneous transluminal angioplasty. There was complete recovery of neurological deficit.

Techniques in Cardiology : PDA Closure in Children.

Background: Transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) with various devices has been evaluated worldwide and in selected cases can be performed successfully, thus avoiding the morbidity associated with surgical closure.

Methods And Results: A 2 year old female child presented with PDA and aortic angiography showed large PDA (tubular). This defect can be closed nonsurgically by coils and devices.
