We assessed the impact of the vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) calculator, which was revised in 2021 to address concerns about equity. Aims: ZSF1 obese rats harbouring two mutant leptin receptor alleles (Lepr and Lepr) develop metabolic syndrome and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), making them a widely used animal model in cardiometabolic research. Studies using ZSF1 rats have contributed significantly to the elucidation of pathophysiological mechanisms underlying HFpEF and therapeutic strategies against this multi-organ syndrome. In contrast, hybrid, lean ZSF1 rats (L-ZSF1) do not develop HFpEF and generally serve as controls, disregarding the possibility that the presence of one mutant Lepr allele might affect left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), diastolic dysfunction and other relevant HFpEF parameters, such as N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels and cardiac inflammation, which could increase during disease manifestation.

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are well known to prevent and repair protein damage caused by various abiotic stressors, but their role in low temperature and freezing stress is not well-characterized in insects compared to other thermal challenges such as heat stress. Ice formation in and around cells is hypothesized to cause protein damage, yet many species of insects can survive freezing, suggesting HSPs may be an important mechanism in freeze tolerance. Here, we studied HSP70 in a freeze-tolerant cricket Gryllus veletis to better understand the role of HSPs in this phenomenon.

The concept and social media hashtag, #BlackGirlMagic, is used to demonstrate the ability of Black women and girls to create paths and to succeed despite intersectional racism, sexism, and classism. Conversely, the concept of Black Girl Magic and Strong Black Woman schemas have been used to glorify struggle, undermine support, and victim-blame. Therefore, resiliency for Black women and girls requires clarification on how and why it is used and understood by researchers and practitioners.
