The etiopathogenesis, risk factors, and natural history of benign prostate hyperplasia are issues still not well enough clarified. Hormonal factors, stroma/epithelial interactions and cell mechanisms are among the underlying causes implicated. So far, no sound criteria for the choice of a conservative therapeutic approach to the condition have been worked out.

Fifteen patients with clinically manifest disease were the subject of this study; 4-8 mg Orgotein bulk was applied once a week in a total course of 8 to 10 injections. Criteria for the effect of treatment were: regression of the plaque consistency and size; decrease in the erectile deformity; change or disappearance of pain.
