The lengthening of the electric ventricular systole in relation to electromechanical systole in acute myocardial infarction is shown to be significant for long-term postinfarction prognosis of sudden death. The use of electromechanical systole as a reference for electrical systole appears to be a more sensitive predictive index, as compared to the electrical systole duration with a correction for heart rate.
