46 year old man appealed to the Cancer Research Center of RAMS in October 2012 with unverified anterior superior mediastinal tumor, which was diagnosed in 2010. Progressive compartment syndrome of the superior vena cava was observed. On examination: CT, MRI, angiography, histological and cytological examination of biopsy material did not allow to confirm the morphological structure of the tumor.

Due to combined use of surgery, chemo- and radiotherapy, 58.8% of patients with locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma survived for 5 years. More organ-saving operations could be performed as a result of administering cisplatin, bleomycin and 5-fluorouracil chemotherapy in conjunction with radiation and subsequent surgery.

The Russian Cancer Research Center has experience in diagnosing and treating more than 800 patients with osteosarcoma who have been treated at the Clinic of General Oncology since 1952. Survival rates were no more than 10% before the 1970s when the only treatment was surgical. The use of adjuvant chemotherapy after radical surgery has increased survival up to 45-60%.
