Ixodid ticks and tick-borne encephalitis virus prevalence in the South Asian part of Russia (Republic of Tuva).

The most significant processes of arbovirus evolution can be expected to occur in the territories where ticks of different species cohabitate and at the boundaries of virus occurrence, where the probability of the appearance of new virus variants is high due to the possible shift in the main vectors and/or vertebrate hosts. One of the most interesting regions in this regard is the Republic of Tuva. Since most of its territory is covered by mountain ranges and intermountain basins, we were able to study the distribution of vectors and viruses in geographically isolated areas at different altitudes and in various landscapes.

[Contemporary state of work conditions and occupational morbidity of workers engaged into rubber, mechanical rubber and tire industries].

Based on analysis of materials provided by occupational safety department PC "UZEMiK" and JSC "Kauchuk", the authors evaluate contemporary work conditions and occupational morbidity in workers engaged into rubber, mechanical rubber and tyre industries.

[Thermosensitization of tumor cells with inhibitors of chaperone activity and expression].

Effects of inhibitors of the heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) chaperone activity and inhibitors of the heat shock protein (HSP) expression on sensitivity of HeLa tumor cells to hyperthermia were studied. It was found that nanomolar concentrations of inhibitors of the HSP90 activity (17AAG or radicicol) slowed down chaperone-dependent reactivation of a thermo-labile reporter (luciferase) in heat-stressed HeLa cells and slightly enhanced their death following incubation for 60 min at 43 degrees C. Herein, the inhibitors of HSP90 activity stimulated de novo induction of additional chaperones (HSP70 and HSP27) that significantly increased the intracellular HSP levels.

[Inhibitors of the heat shock protein 90 activity: a novel class of tumor radiosensitizers].

The 90 kDa heat shock protein (HSP90) is one of major chaperones of eukaryotes which catalyzes maturation and activation of its client proteins. Among the identified client proteins there are oncogene products, hormone or growth factor receptors and key components of signaling pathways responsible for the malignant growth of tumors or their resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In the case of inhibition of the HSP90 chaperone function, such proteins are inactivated and degraded soon that leads to simultaneous blocking several pathways essential for proliferation and survival of malignant cells; therefore, pharmacological inhibitors of the HSP90 chaperone activity could be used in anticancer therapy.

[Consideration of a potential death risk in the methodology of assessing the population's health].

It has been shown that when calculating the summarized population's health index and the significance (weight) of partial signs, it is expedient to use the calculation from the potential death risk index rather than an expert judgment. The results of calculation examples using morbidity and mortality rates suggest that public health can be assessed on this methodic ground. It is advisable to apply the proposed method for assessing the population's health during sanitary-and-epidemiological surveillance (sociohygienic monitoring) when decisions are taken on the lines of health-promotion measures to reduce morbidity and mortality mainly by circulatory diseases, neoplasms, injuries, and intoxications.
