Celiac Disease in Kosovar Albanian Children: Evaluation of Clinical Features and Diagnosis.

Background: Celiac disease is an immune-mediated disorder characterized by variable clinical manifestations, specific antibodies, HLA-DQ2/DQ8 haplotypes, and enteropathy.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to present the clinical spectrum and patterns of celiac disease in Kosovar Albanian children.

Methods: A cross-sectional retrospective study was performed with Albanian children aged 0-18 years, treated for celiac disease in the Pediatric Clinic, University Clinical Center of Kosovo from 2005 to 2016.

Carpal spasm in a girl as initial presentation of celiac disease: a case report.

Background: Celiac disease is an immune-mediated disorder elicited by ingestion of gluten in genetically susceptible persons. This disorder is characterized by specific histological changes of the small intestine mucosa resulting in malabsorption. This case was written up as it was an unusual and dramatic presentation of celiac disease.

Most frequent causes of urinary tract infections in children.

Aim: to determine the most frequent causes of urinary tract infection (UTI) amongst children according to gender and age.

Methods: 299 children with urinary tract infections were evaluated. All of the cases were clinically evaluated and quantitative and qualitative examinations of the urine (culture with antibiogram) were done.

[Normal values of the diffusing capacity of the lungs in adults].

A steady state diffusing capacity (DLCO) has been measured in 509 healthy (normal) adults (288 males and 221 females) of the age between 18 and 74 years. Obtained DLCO values were related to age, height, body weight and body surface area. Data suggest that there is a good correlation between observed independent variables and DLCO, although there were differences related to sex, presumably because of wide individual variation.
