Article Synopsis
  • The cartilage growth plate is vital for skeletal growth, but its postnatal homeostasis mechanisms are not well understood; research highlights the role of ADGRG6/GPR126 in maintaining the growth plate structure and function in mice.
  • Deletion of the Adgrg6 gene disrupts growth plate balance, leading to issues like a shorter resting zone and altered chondrocyte behavior, with implications on signaling molecules like PTHrP and Indian Hedgehog.
  • ADGRG6 is shown to be crucial for chondrocyte health and regulation, impacting genes involved in growth and cell death, particularly through enhancing the expression of SOX9 and maintaining overall growth plate integrity.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) for treating muscle invasive bladder cancer using image-guided adaptive radiation therapy while monitoring long-term clinical outcomes.
  • A total of 59 patients with specific stages of bladder cancer participated, with their tumors receiving doses ranging from 68 to 72 Gy, and the MTD was found to be 70 Gy.
  • Results showed that 5-year overall survival was 58%, and the bladder preservation rate was high at 89%, with minimal severe acute toxicities reported.

Article Synopsis
  • Radiotherapy trial quality assurance (RT QA) is essential for ensuring safe and consistent radiation treatment across different institutions, focusing on adaptive methods like Image-Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) in the RAIDER trial for bladder cancer.
  • This study analyzed data from 72 participants over 884 Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scans to compare online and offline treatment plan selections, revealing an overall concordance rate of 83%.
  • Results showed an improvement in concordance from 75% in the first stage of the trial to 91% in the second stage, emphasizing the importance of ongoing QA support during the introduction of new radiotherapy techniques.

Previous theoretical investigations of the reactions between an OH radical and a nucleobase have stated the most important pathways to be the C5-C6 addition for pyrimidines and the C8 addition for purines. Furthermore, the abstraction of a methyl hydrogen from thymine has also been proven an important pathway. The conclusions were based solely on gas-phase calculations and harmonic vibrational frequencies.

Objective: To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of the diagnostic accuracy of deep learning (DL) algorithms in the diagnosis of wrist fractures (WF) on plain wrist radiographs, taking healthcare experts consensus as reference standard.

Methods: Embase, Medline, PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science were searched in the period from 1 Jan 2012 to 9 March 2023. Eligible studies were patients with wrist radiographs for radial and ulnar fractures as the target condition, studies using DL algorithms based on convolutional neural networks (CNN), and healthcare experts consensus as the minimum reference standard.
