No cost-effectiveness information of preventive strategies for mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of hepatitis B virus (HBV) has existed for policy decision making. This study aimed to compare the cost-effectiveness of alternative strategies to prevent MTCT of HBV in Vietnam. Cost-utility analysis using a hybrid decision-tree and Markov model were performed from healthcare system and societal perspectives.

A pyruvate dehydrogenase complex deficiency causes a reduction in adenosine triphosphate production and energy insufficiency, leading to neurological disorders. An abnormal E1-alpha protein originating from the gene with pathogenic variants is unable to communicate with E1-beta for the formation of the E1 enzyme, decreasing pyruvate dehydrogenase complex activity. In this study, we report a Vietnamese boy with lethargy, severe metabolic acidosis, increased serum lactate, hyperalaninemia, lactic acidosis, and globus pallidus lesions.

Mertansine (DM1), a potent tumor-killing maytansinoid, requires conjugation to antibodies or incorporation into nanocarriers due to its high toxicity. However, these carriers often result in undesirable biodistribution, leading to rapid and long-term accumulation in the kidneys or liver and potentially increased toxicity. To overcome this limitation, we used the hydrophilic, biocompatible, and stealth properties of polyacrylamide (PAAm) as a scaffold to develop water-soluble PAAm-DM1 polymer prodrugs, leveraging PAAm's previous success in delivering paclitaxel via subcutaneous administration.

Distal hypoperfusion ischemic syndrome (DHIS), also known as dialysis access steal syndrome (DASS), is a rare but significant complication in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis through arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs). This case report presents a female patient in her 40s with a complex medical history, including peripheral arterial disease, coronary artery disease, and recurrent cellulitis affecting her right hand, who developed DHIS following the placement of a brachiobasilic AVF. Despite optimal medical management, the patient exhibited persistent ischemic symptoms, including hand coolness and necrosis, ultimately requiring surgical ligation of the AVF.
