Polymorphic markers identified in the horse genes encoding the interleukin 12 p40 subunit, interferon gamma, tumor necrosis factor receptor 1, and inducible nitric oxide synthase were identified and tested, along with additional markers, for associations with two important horse infections: Rhodococcus equi and Lawsonia intracellularis. Eight immune response-related and 14 microsatellite loci covering 12 out of 31 equine autosomes were used for the association analysis. Markers located on horse Chromosomes Eca10 and 15 were significantly associated with the presence of high numbers of R.

Analysis of MHC class I and class II polymorphism, as well as data from other polymorphic systems (non-MHC lymphocyte alloantigen, blood groups systems, biochemical polymorphisms and microsatellite loci), was used to characterize the extent and distribution of the genic polymorphism of Kladruber horses. A breed-characteristic distribution of the MHC polymorphism was found. The repertoire of defined MHC class I specificities was restricted, especially in the grey subpopulation and in stallions, but a high frequency of blanks suggests the possible existence of undetected specificities.

1. Serum proteins of brown hare (Lepus europaeus Pallas, 1778) were studied by the use of 1D PAGE, 2D agarose-PAGE, immunoblotting, inhibitions of trypsin and chymotrypsin, and specific staining for esterase. 2.

One-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (1D PAGE) followed by immunoblotting revealed genetic polymorphism of GC protein in sheep (variants F, S, V) and mouflon (variants F and S, apparently identical to F and S of sheep). The frequency of Gcs allele ranged from 0.84 to 1.

Easily interpretable polymorphisms were observed in transferrin (variants A, B1, B2, C) and vitamin D binding protein, GC (variants D, F, I, S).
