Unlabelled: Rutile inclusions in almandine-spessartine garnet from a peraluminous pegmatoid from the Moldanubian zone (Bohemian Massif, AT) show distinct changes in aspect ratio, shape preferred orientations (SPO) and crystallographic orientation relationships (COR) along the transition between microstructurally different growth zones in the garnet core and rim. For identification of the COR characteristics we pool specific CORs based on their common axial relationship into three COR groups: Group 103/111, Group 001/111 and Group 001/100. The rutile inclusions in the garnet core domains are elongated along the four Grt 111 directions and are dominated by COR Group 103/111.

The understanding of structural defects in basal-faceted sapphire ribbons was improved through X-ray imaging at a synchrotron source. The combination of phase contrast and X-ray diffraction makes it possible to visualize and characterize both gas voids and dislocations in the bulk of the ribbons grown by the Stepanov-LaBelle technology. Dislocations were directly related to gas voids.

Two new methods of computer simulation of synchrotron radiation nanofocusing with planar compound refractive lenses (PCRLs) are presented. The methods are based on the results of analytical theory. In contrast to previous works, the new methods take into account the PCRL aperture.

We report near- and far-field computer simulations of synchrotron X-ray phase-contrast images using a micropipe in a SiC crystal as a model system. Experimental images illustrate the theoretical results. The properties of nearly perfect single crystals of silicon carbide are strongly affected by μm-sized pores even if their distribution in a crystal bulk is sparse.

Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms or DRESS syndrome is among severe cutaneous drug reactions. This constitutes a clinical triad that includes fever, skin rash and systemic compromise, accompanied by eosinophilia and/ or atypical lymphocytes. We present the case of an 18-month-old female patient with cystic fibrosis, who develops this pathology during a trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole cycle as an eradicating treatment of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in bronchial secretions.
