Plastid translocon recycling in dinoflagellates demonstrates the portability of complex plastids between hosts.

The plastids of photosynthetic organisms on land are predominantly "primary plastids," derived from an ancient endosymbiosis of a cyanobacterium. Conversely, the plastids of marine photosynthetic organisms were mostly gained through subsequent endosymbioses of photosynthetic eukaryotes generating so-called "complex plastids." The plastids of the major eukaryotic lineages-cryptophytes, haptophytes, ochrophytes, dinoflagellates, and apicomplexans-were posited to derive from a single secondary endosymbiosis of a red alga in the "chromalveloate" hypothesis.

Progesterone receptor status predicts aggressiveness of human endometriotic lesions in murine avatars.

Objective: To use murine avatars for studying human endometriotic lesion response to 2 different hormonal regimens to determine whether progesterone receptor (PR) can prospectively predict response to progestin-based therapy. Endometriosis is a chronic gynecologic disease afflicting 1-in-10 reproductive-age women; however response to medical therapy is highly variable because endometriotic lesions do not consistently respond to first-line progestin-based therapy. We have previously demonstrated in a retrospective study that PR status in lesions is correlated with response to progestins.

The P2Y6 Receptor as a Potential Keystone in Essential Hypertension.

Essential hypertension (HT) is a highly prevalent cardiovascular disease of unclear physiopathology. Pharmacological studies suggest that purinergic P2Y6 receptors (P2ry6) play important roles in cardiovascular function and may contribute to angiotensin II (AgtII) pathophysiological effects. Here, we tested the hypothesis that functional coupling between P2ry6 and AgtII receptors mediates altered vascular reactivity in HT.

Pre-Surgery Cortisol Levels as Biomarker of Evolution after Bariatric Surgery: Weight Loss and Weight Regain.

Bariatric surgery (BS) is effective for achieving significant weight loss. However, weight regain (WR) is an emerging problem. To assess the prognostic value of morning serum cortisol, a 1 mg dexamethasone suppression test (DST), 24 h urinary free cortisol (UFC) and late-night salivary cortisol (LNSC) in a cohort of patients with severe obesity (pwSO) undergoing BS in terms of weight loss and WR.
