Analysis of Genomic Characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 in Italy, 29 January to 27 March 2020.

We performed next-generation sequencing (NGS), phylogenetic analysis, gene flows, and - and -glycosylation prediction on SARS-CoV-2 genomes collected from lab-confirmed cases from different Italian regions. To this end, a total of 111 SARS-CoV-2 genomes collected in Italy between 29 January and 27 March 2020 were investigated. The majority of the genomes belonged to lineage B.

Linear and nonlinear stability of periodic orbits in annular billiards.

An annular billiard is a dynamical system in which a particle moves freely in a disk except for elastic collisions with the boundary and also a circular scatterer in the interior of the disk. We investigate the stability properties of some periodic orbits in annular billiards in which the scatterer is touching or close to the boundary. We analytically show that there exist linearly stable periodic orbits of an arbitrary period for scatterers with decreasing radii that are located near the boundary of the disk.

Uterine artery embolization for severe symptomatic fibroids: effects on fertility and symptoms.

Study Question: Does uterine artery embolization (UAE) permit fertility in childbearing women who have extensive symptomatic fibroids and are not eligible for surgery?

Summary Answer: Although UAE was effective in improving bleeding, bulking and pain symptoms, and in sparing the ovarian reserve, no woman in this study delivered successfully after UAE.

What Is Known Already: Although pregnancies have been reported after UAE, the actual fertility rate after this treatment remains uncertain.

Study Design, Size, Duration: This prospective cohort study included 66 women who desired a future pregnancy and were treated with UAE for symptomatic fibroids.

[An evaluation of the circulatory indices and of the blood oxygen-transport function in relation to the level of endogenous intoxication in patients with abdominal sepsis].

Septic shock in the presence of abdominal sepsis is one of the main cases of death of surgical patients. Hemodynamics was studied by impedancometry in 46 patients with abdominal sepsis. Hemodynamic changes and oxygen transporting function of the blood correlated with the severity of endogenous intoxication.
