It was found, that alkali metal-europium dinitrosalicylates of composition M(3)Eu(3,5-NO(2)-Sal)(3).nH(2)O (M=Li, Na, K, Cs) are intense red luminophores with wide excitation band. Using methods of optical spectroscopy we studied the influence of nitrogroups and alkali metal counterions on Eu(3+) luminescence efficiency and on processes of excitation energy transfer to Eu(3+) ion in compounds synthesized.

Carbocyclic alpha, gamma-bis(nucleoside)-5,5'-triphosphonates and alpha, delta-bis(nucleoside)-5,5'-tetraphosphonates (Ap4A and Gp4G) analogues were shown to be a new type of terminating substrate of HIV reverse transcriptase. They effectively inhibited the DNA synthesis catalyzed by this enzyme in model cell-free systems, but their antiviral activity both in Rat1 fibroblast cell culture bearing MLV reverse transcriptase and in HIV-infected MT-4 cells was low. When a liposome delivery system was used, the antiviral efficacy of the compounds under study was increased.

Human liposomal recombinant alpha 2b-interferon topically applied to laboratory animals was tested for antiviral activity, pharmacokinetics, and toxicity. The interferon was shown to penetrate through the skin and to circulate in the blood of experimental animals longer than its injectable form, and to exhibit its antiviral activity against genital herpes in guinea pigs. It produced no toxic, skin-irritant, or allergic effects in laboratory animals.

Luminescence excitation vibronic spectra as well as IR and Raman spectra of about 50 primary, binary and ternary lanthanide tungstates and molybdates and compounds with mixed anions (doped by Eu3+ ions) relating to about 15 structural types were analysed. Correlation of the types of isolated and joint coordination polyhedra of tungsten or molybdenum with details of the vibration and Eu3+ vibronic spectra was investigated.
