Treatment of Cervical Spine Fractures and Subluxations without the Use of Intraoperative Fluoroscopy in Resource-Limited Settings.

 Surgical management of subaxial cervical spine injuries remains challenging. Although intraoperative fluoroscopy is usually used for intraoperative spinal level localization (SLL), it is unavailable in most developing countries. The surgeon therefore has to rely on anatomic landmarks.

Xenomonitoring of sleeping sickness transmission in Campo (Cameroon).

Background: The sleeping sickness focus of Campo in South Cameroon is still active, at a low endemic level, for more than a century, despite a regular medical surveillance. The present study focuses on the spatial distribution of xenomonitoring information obtained from an entomological survey performed in the dry season 2012. It appears that humans constitute a third of the blood meals and that the flies' densities were coherent with those classically observed in the different biotopes.

Giant pseudoaneurysm of the left axillary artery following a stab wound.

Axillary artery pseudoaneurysms are rare. We report on a 30-year-old patient with a 6.5-cm post-traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the left axillary artery two months after a knife stab wound of the shoulder.

Complications of arteriovenous fistula for hemodialysis: an 8-year study.

Background: To assess the frequency and characteristics of complications of arteriovenous fistula (AVF) and their effect on fistula outcome.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 628 AVFs constructed from November 2002 to October 2010 to record the complications and their management options. The association between age, sex, comorbidities (HIV, hypertension, and diabetes), fistula type, and complications was sought.

Surgical repair of a giant pseudoaneurysm of the right common carotid artery following a gunshot.

Common carotid pseudoaneurysms are very rare. The authors report a case of a 18-year-old patient with 11 cm large posttraumatic pseudoaneurysm of the right common carotid artery caused by a gunshot in the neck. The patient also had a right hemiplegia, secondary to the left sylvian artery stroke and aphasia.
