Illicit drug use and its health consequences in Belarus, Russian Federation and Ukraine: impact of transition.

The objective of this paper was to analyze the impact of the transition period on illicit drug use and its health consequences in Belarus, the Russian Federation and Ukraine. Available data were compiled to illustrate the trends and policy responses since 1991, when the countries had become politically independent and implemented radical changes in their social systems, which is particularly prominent in the Russian Federation and Ukraine. The transition period was associated with a rapid and dramatic increase in the supply of drugs combined with an increased demand, which was influenced by a range of social, economic and psychological factors.

[Characteristics of the torpid course of psychopathy-like schizophrenia complicated by alcoholism].

A comparative study of two groups of patients with sluggish psychopathy-like schizophrenia complicated (n = 125) and uncomplicated (n = 85) by alcoholism has shown that alcoholism somewhat enlivens affectivity and reduces autistic manifestations, increasing, however, the progressive nature of the schizophrenic process and leading to the formation of a deeper defect.

[Clinico-biochemical approach to the problem of psychogenic disorders and background].

total of 270 patients with psychogenic disturbances were studied. Three levels of the interaction between the background and psychogenesis were specified. In accordance with these levels psychogenic disturbances were presented in the form of continuous changes from the typical to the atypical, from the predominance of the psychogenic to the predominance of the endogenic.

[Reactive states among psychopathic personalities of different clinical groups].

On the basis of a clinical follow-up of 71 psychopaths with manifestations of reactive psychosis, the authors established the clinico-typological characteristics of both groups of pathology and the system of correlations between them. They also described the structure of the psychopathic and psychogenic syndromes, the type of psychopathic personality reaction and the form of psychogenic responses and proved statistically their close interrelationship. Data were obtained on some general regularities of interrelations of reactive psychoses with a psychopathic background which are important for the prognosis, prophylaxis and therapy of reactive states.
